Welcome to Fear Nation

I assure you that I prefer cynicism to Leader-worship (unless it's a Progressive). Neither side is right and neither side is telling the whole truth, both sides are manipulating the public and have for decades. It's building up to a second civil war and the GOP (the Neoconfederacy's party after the Southern Strategy) lost control. Neoliberalism was how the Eastern Establishment controlled us using methods described in the Century of the Self. The GOP side is just plain nasty exploiting the lurid fantasies of the p'tit-boos since the John Birch Society, a social class that no rational society ought to produce.

It's a basic rule of social processes that power begins as service and ends as abuse. When this affects the rate of growth cults of unreason proliferate. Vested interests will defend their dominant positions by exploiting these. Why make up any of their own? Bob Welch did, but he was only reviving one from 1810. Crowds go mad when denied emotional and psychological security; some retreat to flat earth theory or creationism. You might think that Progressivism is also a cult, but the West's s-curve has been plateauing since stagflation. High finance reasserted its pre-Depression dominance during NYC's fiscal crisis. Then deindustrialization drove former union members into the GOP. I don't think the GOP expected Trump to grab them. The Dems are desperate to maintain the stasis and masturbate the public but when it comes to a fight, they act like robopaths (google that).

To get some idea of what a flattening s-curve will do to a society look at Nazi Germany. America had its own nuttery but Musk tapped into another one and the crowd roared. I don't either the GOP or Putin expected Musk and that bizarre transhumanist longtermist cyber-crowd. They're mentally unhealthy, too. US seems determined to morph into what Arnold Toynbee called a universal state (google that, too).

Two power blocs, two awful ideas: neoliberalism and supply-side capitalism, and now the Silicon Dream making Civil War II a three-cornered affair. The past 40+ years were an awful squandering on sheer vainglory and pretense.
